GOMESONGS SIDE A

This is the first of two compilations of old songs of mine that I was submitting to publishers. I chose what I believed was the best of them and created albums out of that material. This is why the musical genres are all over the map and you hear male and female singers. They were mostly home-produced with a little bit of touch up in the studio. In retrospect, I wish that I had worked with other musicians and recorded each in a studio with a good engineer and producer. But at the time, I was driven to work alone and save costs. It shows in the production. However, I do think some of the songs, if taken on their own, have merit. Overall this first collection feels more cohesive than Side B. Here is the trivia rundown for this compilation.

1.) Now is the Time

Written in 7/4 time, it conveys the urgent need to take advantage of life's opportunities, right now -- something we should all remind ourselves.

2.) The Return of Johnny Heart

I've always admired lyrics that begin with narrators who seem firm in their convictions, but who reveal themselves to be much less resolute by the end. This song follows that path.

3.) Sea Foam Green

This was written in reaction to the vast array of what I consider ridiculous names for colours to describe clothing, paint, and so on. A humorous little ditty with decent lyrics.

4.) Fine

A reaction to that exasperating word often used in self-denial.  Many people (myself included) are often "fine" even when it's apparent to others (and to ourselves) that we are not.

5.) Leyanna

Some people find this song humorous and wish there were more like it; others find it offensive. Although it does have something to say about those who defraud our social system, it was solely intended to pay homage to one of my favourite West Indian songs,
"Shame and Scandal," originally written by Trinidadian singer, Sir Lancelot.

6.) Room in My Heart

About someone who has taken steps to assert herself in a relationship.

7.) My Own Little World

This is something that many of us have--a place to retreat to that is somewhere in the mind. I like the melody of this song and I think it’s one of the best on this compilation.

8.) Real Good Time

My attempt at a song for country line-dancing, or at least my impression of it.

9.) She's Half His Age

A comment on winter/spring relationships.

10.) Teenager

A rocking mid-life crisis tune full of wishful thinking.
